The Asaba massacre and need for healing
At the 59th anniversary of the 1967 Asaba massacre in Asaba, Delta State, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, appealed for forgiveness and reconciliation. Obasanjo described the massacre as one of the most painful and most terrible aspects of the Nigerian Civil War. Conversely, the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi epiphany Azinge (SAN), argued that there can be no closure for his people until a sitting President publicly apologises for the 1967 killings.
