Spanish giants Real Madrid have completed the signing of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth €55 million (£63.8 million).
The club confirmed on Monday that the 27-year-old left-back has signed a six-year contract, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.
In a statement, Real Madrid said: “Real Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will join our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
Cucurella returns to Spain after four years in England. He joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, having previously progressed through the academy of FC Barcelona before establishing himself at Getafe CF.
The defender is currently representing Spain national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and becomes the only Real Madrid player included in coach Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

The signing marks another major move in Real Madrid’s rebuilding plans after club president Florentino Pérez was re-elected earlier this month following two trophyless seasons. The club also recently appointed José Mourinho as head coach.
Real Madrid are expected to remain active in the transfer market, with reports linking them to Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries.
For Chelsea, Cucurella’s departure comes after a disappointing campaign that saw the club finish 10th in the Premier League. The defender had publicly criticised the club’s decision to dismiss Enzo Maresca in January.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Cucurella helped Chelsea win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League, leaving with two years still remaining on his contract.
The transfer underlines Real Madrid’s determination to strengthen their squad ahead of a demanding new season as they seek to reclaim domestic and European dominance.
