From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has launched the “Unite Against Terror” campaign, calling on residents to play an active role in combating terrorism and other forms of criminality by promptly reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
In a statewide broadcast on Monday, the governor said safeguarding lives and property requires collective responsibility, stressing that the government and security agencies alone cannot guarantee lasting peace without the support of citizens.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report unusual movements, suspicious gatherings, or any activity capable of threatening the peace and security of their communities.
“If you see something, say something. Timely and credible information remains one of the most effective tools in preventing crime and protecting lives and property,” Yahaya said.
The governor described insecurity as the greatest threat to the stability and development of Northern Nigeria, noting that security and development are closely linked and must be pursued simultaneously to achieve sustainable progress.

He also charged security agencies to adapt to emerging threats by combining modern technology with community-based intelligence and local security strategies. According to him, intelligence-led operations, community engagement and respect for human rights should remain central to security operations.
Yahaya commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property. He also paid tribute to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The governor further acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, youth and women groups in promoting peace and resolving conflicts across the state.
He urged residents to reject terrorism, hate, violence and all forms of criminality, warning that terrorists exploit divisions within communities.
Yahaya also called on the people of Gombe State to support the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and embrace the “Unite Against Terror” campaign, saying sustained public cooperation would strengthen the fight against violent extremism and help preserve the peace enjoyed in the state.
