Content creator and comedian Okojie Bobby Oseyi, popularly known as ThaEdoBoy, has said creators who build a niche stand a better chance of achieving long-term success than those who rely on chasing trends.
The University of Benin graduate said having a clear identity is what separates creators who remain relevant from those who quickly fade away.
“The only thing that separates them is some follow trends while others build a niche. If you follow trends, then you might probably not last long, but if you build a niche, you would last long,” he told Daily Sun.
Known for his football-themed comedy content and strong support for Cristiano Ronaldo, ThaEdoBoy said criticism from rival football fans comes with the territory, but he has learned how to manage it.
“Yes, that’s true, but I just find a way to create that balance. After all, it’s just football banter and nothing more,” he said.
The comedian also opened up about moments of creative exhaustion, crediting the support of like-minded friends for helping him push through challenging periods.
“Yes, there were moments like that, but I thank God for the friends God gave me, the likes of my brother De General. When you move with people who are like-minded and have the same goals as you, moments like that won’t be a problem because you motivate each other. So I scaled through those times because of the company I kept,” he said.
Reflecting on the realities of content creation, ThaEdoBoy said creators must learn to deal with periods of low engagement, noting that social media algorithms can sometimes affect the performance of their content.
“It plays a whole lot of roles, but most times the algorithm won’t favour you. That’s just the hard truth. You post content and the engagement is lower than you expect. You have no choice than to move on and create more content,” he added.
ThaEdoBoy has carved out a niche by combining football passion with comedy, building a digital brand around football banter and relatable content.
