Olukemi Niyi-Aluko, popularly known as Diva Gold, is a Nigerian actress, content creator, skit maker and influencer who is steadily making her mark in Nollywood.
Recently, she made her cinema debut with A Father’s Secret, a project that also marked a significant milestone in her career as an executive producer.
In this exclusive interview with Saturday Sun, she opens up about her passion for storytelling, career journey, sacrifices made for success, relationships, and her aspirations for the future. Enjoy!
How have you been?
I haven’t been doing so well, to be honest. There have been moments when work has been slow, and the journey has felt overwhelming. But I’m grateful because every challenge has taught me something. Despite it all, this has also been an exciting season of growth and preparation for my upcoming cinema release, A Father’s Secret. I’m choosing to focus on the progress, and I’m thankful for every opportunity that continues to come my way.
Can you share some of your latest projects with us?
I’ve been involved in several film projects both as an actress and now as an executive producer. One of my biggest projects is A Father’s Secret, my latest film, which is currently showing in the cinemas. It’s a project that means so much to me because I poured my heart into every stage of its production.
So far, how would you rate this year in terms of your career?
I’d rate this year a 9 out of 10. It’s been one of the most defining years of my career. I’ve experienced growth, taken on bigger responsibilities, and reached milestones I’ve prayed for. There’s still more to achieve, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
Could you tell us what inspired this work, A Father’s Secret?
Producing has not always been part of my vision. I only recently felt the urge to create meaningful stories instead of waiting for opportunities. A Father’s Secret gave me the chance to tell an emotional, relatable, and impactful story while contributing something valuable to the industry.
Launching on the big screen is a significant move; why did you choose to release your film in cinemas rather than on streaming platforms?
The story deserves the cinema experience. Some films are made to be felt on a bigger screen, where audiences can laugh, cry, and experience every emotion together. I wanted people to enjoy A Father’s Secret the way it was intended to be seen.
Could you tell us more about this movie; what is it truly about; is it a true-life story?
A Father’s Secret is an emotional family drama filled with love, betrayal, sacrifice, and unexpected revelations. It explores how one secret can change the lives of everyone involved. While it isn’t based on one specific true story, it’s inspired by real-life experiences and emotions that many people can relate to.
How do you manage moments of self-doubt, especially during this major project?

I remind myself why I started. I pray, lean on my support system, and focus on the work instead of the fear. Self-doubt comes to everyone, but I don’t allow it to stop me from moving forward.
Your career journey has been steadily ascending; what was the exact turning point when you decided, ‘this is it for me’?
I realised acting wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was my purpose. Every time I stepped on set, I felt completely alive. The more opportunities I got, the more convinced I became that this was what I was created to do.
What sacrifices have you made to reach this level of success?
I’ve sacrificed comfort, sleep, social time, and sometimes even financial stability. There were moments when I invested everything I had into my career because I believed the rewards would eventually come. Success always demands consistency and sacrifice.
What has been the most emotionally challenging role you’ve played, and did it affect you afterwards?
Some emotionally intense roles stay with you long after filming. There have been scenes that required me to tap into deep emotions, and it took time to detach mentally afterwards. I’ve learned the importance of separating the character from my personal life once filming is over.
Do you believe Nollywood is finally giving young actors the recognition they deserve?
Yes, I believe progress is being made. More young actors are getting opportunities to lead major productions and showcase their talents. However, there’s still room for improvement, and I hope the industry continues to create more platforms where emerging talents can thrive.
Is there any filmmaker or actor you still dream of working with?
Absolutely! I’d love to work with some of Nollywood’s finest filmmakers and actors who constantly challenge themselves creatively. I also hope to collaborate internationally because I believe great storytelling has no borders.
Have you ever lost a relationship while pursuing your passion?
Pursuing a demanding career can sometimes affect relationships because of the time, commitment, and sacrifices involved. I’ve learned that the right people will understand your purpose and support your dreams rather than compete with them.
What would cause you to reject a role despite enticing pay?
No amount of money is worth compromising my values or accepting a role that promotes something I genuinely don’t believe in. I also value good storytelling and professionalism, so I wouldn’t take on a project that lacks respect for the craft.
Do you think talent alone is sufficient for success in Nollywood today; why or why not?
Talent is the foundation, but it isn’t enough on its own. Discipline, consistency, professionalism, networking, continuous learning, and resilience are equally important. The industry is very competitive, and success comes from combining talent with hard work and the right attitude.
If film opportunities ceased to come your way today, what would be your next step?
I wouldn’t stop telling stories. I’d continue producing my own films, creating digital content, and building projects that create opportunities for myself and others. My passion is storytelling, and it doesn’t depend on waiting for someone to call me.
