French President Emmanuel Macron has downplayed the alleged kidnap plot targeting football star, Kylian Mbappe, whom he called a “national treasure”.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Macron said no one would be allowed to touch Mbappe.

He stated this after French authorities allegedly uncovered a plot to abduct 26 wealthy targets, including the 27-year-old World Cup winner.

Le Parisien reported that the alleged plot was orchestrated by an 18-year-old identified as Clement L, who had previously been placed in pre-trial detention over allegations relating to pimping and organised robbery.

“Kidnapping attempt on Mbappé? No one will touch Kylian.

“He is a national treasure,” Macron reportedly said.

Meanwhile, Mbappe missed a late penalty as his Real Madrid side fell to a shock 1-0 loss to Real Betis in La Liga on Friday night.

The result ended Madrid’s perfect start to the season, having previously won their first three games against Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Malaga.
