The Zamfara State House of Assembly unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Dr Dauda Lawal on Thursday, May 15, for his achievements across socio-economic sectors in his two years in office.

Speaker Rt Hon Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki announced the resolution during a plenary session in Gusau.

House Majority Leader Hon. Bello Muhammad Mazawaje moved the motion, urging members to recognise the governor’s exceptional performance. He highlighted Lawal’s strides in security, education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and social welfare, noting their statewide impact.

“I hereby move the motion to pass a vote of confidence on His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal, for the various developmental projects he has initiated within just two years in office,” Mazawaje stated.

Deputy Speaker Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi seconded the motion, praising Lawal’s “Rescue Mission” for restoring public trust in governance. Lawmakers, including Hon. Yakubu Almajir (Bungudu East), Hon. Ibrahim Liman (Gusau II), Hon. Lirwanu Marafa Nagambo (Anka), Minority Whip Hon. Nura Dahiru Dan-Ali (Birnin Magaji), Hon. Hamisu A. Faru (Bukkuyum), and Hon. Shamsu Hass, supported the motion, citing projects like:

– Security interventions, including the Community Protection Guards.
– Upgrades to educational and healthcare infrastructure, with renovated hospitals and schools.
– Agricultural support, such as the UNDP-backed Northwest Prevention Facility Project.
– Infrastructure, including roads and the Zamfara Cargo International Airport.
– Urban renewal in Gusau.
– Over ₦60 billion disbursed via the NG-CARES programme.
– Payment of over ₦4 billion in gratuities owed since 2011.

The lawmakers also commended Lawal’s efforts in rebuilding hospitals, supporting traditional institutions, and boosting socio-economic development.

The House adopted two committee reports:

1. Amendment to the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Law No. 5, 2022, presented by Hon. Yakubu Almajir, to enhance rights, accessibility, and inclusion for persons with disabilities.
2. Repeal and Re-Enactment of the Zamfara State College of Agriculture and Animal Science Law, 2000, presented by Hon. Mustapha Usman, to update the institution’s mandate as the Zamfara State College of Agriculture and Technology Law, 2025.

Both bills passed their third readings, overseen by Clerk Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu, and were forwarded to Governor Lawal for assent.
