Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved all outstanding demands of resident doctors who recently went on strike over unpaid arrears. He made the disclosure on Friday during the launch of the Northern Parkway construction from Ring Road II to Ring III along Shehu Yar’Adua Way, Life Camp, Abuja.

Praising the doctors for suspending their strike in consideration of patients and the community, Wike confirmed, “I must commend the resident doctors for calling off the strike, the administration is happy with their understanding. I have signed all the doctors requests on my table today.”

He further instructed the FCT Acting Head of Service and Senior Special Adviser on Administration, Samuel Atang, to promptly implement the approvals.

On the road project, Wike highlighted its benefits, stating it will generate jobs, reduce traffic congestion, and boost the city’s economic activities.

The doctors had commenced their strike on September 15 after prolonged unresolved talks with FCTA. Their demands included salary arrears owed from one to six months for those employed since 2023, immediate staff recruitment, and settlement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund.

Additional requests comprised payment of arrears linked to the 25/35 percent upward revision in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, clear timelines for skipping and conversion processes, halt to erroneous deductions, correction of irregular payments, and hazard allowance arrears for 13 months. They also sought payment of arrears owed to 2025 external residents.
