Fadahunsi recall threat ‘politically motivated’ – Osun East movement

A socio-political movement in Osun East Senatorial District has dismissed threats by a youth group to initiate a recall process against Senator Francis Fadahunsi.

This follows a protest on Wednesday, during which youth groups called for Fadahunsi’s arrest and threatened to recall the lawmaker over alleged incitement ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Rejecting the threat, the Fadahunsi Grassroots Movement claimed the protesters were politically sponsored to distract the legislator.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilesa, the movement’s Director-General, Samuel Awowole, defended the lawmaker’s track record, citing his contributions to community development.

“Fadahunsi has secured employment for over 400 constituents, provided tools for local artisans, and awarded scholarships, among other achievements,” Awowole said.

Addressing the protest, Awowole acknowledged the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and accountability, but raised concerns over the motives behind the demonstration.

“While we recognize the right to peaceful assembly and the need for accountability, we are concerned about the circumstances surrounding this protest, the messages conveyed, and the background of some participants.

“Some of these individuals previously shared political interests with Senator Fadahunsi and have benefited directly or indirectly from his representation,” he stated.

Condemning post-election hostility, the movement urged stakeholders to exercise restraint.

“The Osun State Governorship Election has come and gone. Whatever differences exist among political parties, the peace and security of our people must take precedence over political interests,” Awowole added.

Also speaking at the event, Comrade Oluwole Oyetunde, president of the New Nigerian Mandate, warned against actions that could destabilise the region.

Calling for constructive, issue-based engagement rather than character assassination and sponsored divisions, the group said, “We strongly condemn any action capable of threatening the peace, security, and stability of Ife/Ijesa land—a region where people have coexisted for generations. Its future must not be sacrificed for political disagreements.”

The leaders called on Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Haastrup, and other traditional, religious and political figures to intervene and caution any groups threatening public peace ahead of the 2027 general election.
