The Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V has commended the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu for changing the fortune of the Calabar Golf Club through the provision of up-to-date facilities.
The Obong who gave the commendation soon after teeing off this year’s edition of Utomo Obong golf competition that attracted golfers across the nation said the club has never witnessed this unprecedented transformation in the area of amenities, stressing that the Governor has done noble by placing Calabar Golf Club on the international sports map.
He thanked the members of the Club for using golf to popularize Utomo Obong.
The Captain of the Club, Maj. Gen. Ahmed M Sabo (rtd) in his remarks lauded the Obong of Calabar for sustaining the Utomo Obong golf tournament which according to him is one of the biggest events in the Nation’s Golf Calendar.
He used the occasion to thank the State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu for transforming the club to international standard through the provision of standard facilities.
At the end of Championship which covered 18 holes, Ayodele Onabolu emerged the overall winner with a nett score of 74 while Eja Dons with 78 nett became the runner up.
Sam Kalio who garnered 79 nett was the 1st runner up.
Category 16 through 28 winner was Brig. Gen. Enang Ukaagu (rtd) who scored 73 nett.
The female winner was Gladness Dan who recorded 87 nett while Paul Ebiala emerged the winner in the veteran’s category after returning 77 nett.
