Ben Nwoye’s emergence as Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) signals a major boost to the party’s influence in southern Nigeria, according to prominent Enugu APC chieftain Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi in a statement.

He praised Nwoye’s track record during the just-concluded national convention on March 28 in Abuja. “Dr Nwoye’s emergence marks a significant step in strengthening the party’s foothold in the Southern region,” Ugwuanyi stated.

“His proven track record as former APC Chairman in Enugu State, combined with his reputation as an inclusive and grassroots-oriented leader, positions him well to consolidate the gains already recorded by the party across Southern Nigeria.”

Ugwuanyi, a consultant neurosurgeon with over 30 years of experience and former APC chairman in Enugu State, also lauded Nwoye’s predecessor, Emma Eneukwu, for laying a “solid foundation for party growth and cohesion” in the south.

He spotlighted Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma’s pioneering efforts in expanding the APC’s reach in the South-East, alongside Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s “bold vision” and inclusive governance.

Under Mbah, Enugu has advanced in aviation, education, and healthcare, Ugwuanyi noted, crediting the governor’s stakeholder engagement for building unity and confidence.

He urged APC Enugu Chairman Martins Chukwunweike to prioritise party unity and mobilisation in support of national goals.

While acknowledging short-term pains from federal reforms under APC leadership, Ugwuanyi expressed optimism about long-term gains. He tasked Nwoye with deepening party structures and promoting stability to deliver democratic benefits across the South.
