Twelve people were reportedly killed on Saturday, with two others sustaining injuries in a road traffic crash involving two Volkswagen cars along the Kaduna-Kachia Road in southern Kaduna.
The crash, which occurred at Doka Village, involved 14 persons comprising eight males and six females, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
According to the Sector Commander, FRSC, Kaduna State Command, Andrew Paul Longkam, eight males and four females died in the crash, while two females were injured and rushed to Rapha Hospital for medical attention.
He identified the vehicles involved as a blue Volkswagen Golf 3, with registration number APP 394 FN, driven by Alex Bako, and a red Volkswagen Golf III, with registration number ACN 205 HK, driven by Jerry Ankunle.
The FRSC said the probable cause of the crash was a tyre burst, adding that none of the passengers, including the two drivers, used their seat belts or any protective gear.
According to him, the crash was reported at 10:20 am, while the FRSC team arrived at the scene at 10:50 am, 20 minutes after receiving the report, to complement the soldiers and police.
“The injured victims were immediately evacuated to Rapha Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Idon General Hospital pending contact with their relatives.
“The two vehicles involved in the crash were subsequently recovered to Kajuru Police Station,” the commander said.
