Stakeholders in Nigeria’s tourism and entertainment sectors have reaffirmed tourism’s role as a vital catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and regional integration. This consensus followed the official launch of the Nairobi Lifestyle Tour, scheduled for April 2026.
The tour was unveiled at a press briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, attended by leaders from the tourism, aviation, travel, entertainment, and media industries.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismail, representing Commissioner Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, stated that tourism remains central to the state’s economic agenda.

“Tourism and entertainment are key drivers of development in Lagos. This initiative will not only encourage outbound travel but also stimulate inbound tourism into Lagos from other nations,” she said.
She added that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu continues to prioritize the creative economy as an engine for growth, noting that all outbound flights for this tour will depart from Lagos, boosting local hotel patronage and aviation services.
Mr. Michael Kadiri, CEO of Leisure Republic, described the Nairobi Lifestyle Tour as a shift toward premium, curated travel. “Tourism today is about value creation and sustainable impact, not just movement,” Kadiri said. He explained that the tour was designed to build “tourism bridges” across Africa, showcasing culture, wildlife, and luxury hospitality.
To further bridge the gap between entertainment and travel, Afrobeat artist Damilola Afolabi (L.A.X.) was unveiled as the brand ambassador for the tour. Afolabi pledged to use his digital reach to promote the interconnectedness of African music and travel.
