China to host 2027 BRICS presidency, says President Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping, has said China will take over the presidency of BRICS in 2027.

Xi stated this while attending the ongoing 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.

Xinhua News Agency reported that while speaking during the summit, Xi said cooperation mechanism has become world’s most influential platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.

The Chinese leader called on BRICS countries to firmly stand on the right side of history, while also calling for the pioneering in innovative development.

Speaking further, he made case for BRICS to play pioneering role in maintaining peace and development across the globe.

While warning against war in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Xi assured that China will work with BRICS members state to play due role in achieving peace, tranquillity in the Middle East and Gulf region.

The Chinese Government-owned news agency further reported Xi to have called on BRICS to pioneer the boosting of mutual learning among civilizations and also becine a pioneer in improving global governance.

Other calls made during the summit by President Xi included the strengthening cooperation in Artificial intelligence by BRICS countries; proposed initiative to promote new industrialization through AI among BRICS countries; opposing Cold War mentality, bloc confrontation; opposing violations of other countries’ sovereignty, interference in their internal affairs; upholding the United Nations authority; rejecting all forms of protectionism, leading global governance in cyberspace, outer space, deep sea, and for BRICS countries to amplify voice of the Global South.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Saturday, met his Indian counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, India.

During the meeting, Xi said China and India can learn from each other’s strengths and achieve shared development.

The Chinese President, according to Xinhua News Agency, urged China and India to join hands for high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation.

He further said China and India should advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world, while also telling Modi that China viewed ties with India from strategic and long-term perspective.
