Nigerian-born grandfather, Chris Osagbaekhoe, has graduated with a first-class degree in Social Work from Goldsmiths, University of London, aged 68.
On September 2, Osagbaekhoe received his BA (Hons) in Social Work at a graduation ceremony held at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster.
Born and raised in Nigeria, the father of four and grandfather of 12 now resides in Thamesmead, south-east London.
He pursued a psychology and counselling degree between 2013 and 2015 before pivoting into a career in social work, driven by a desire to help vulnerable people and “become a voice for the voiceless”.
He began studying towards his Social Work degree aged 64, having experienced setbacks in his academic journey, and transferred to Goldsmiths in 2024.
In a release, the institution lauded his determination to complete his studies.
Osagbaekhoe said living with disability helped him gain perspective and expressed hope that his story would encourage people living with disabilities and other mature students not to jettison their academic dreams.
“If I can achieve this at 68, others can too. People are often far stronger and more capable than they realise,” he said.
