Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has said he was marked for elimination during the recent United States military operation that hit terror targets in Nigeria.

Daily Sun recalls that US air strikes struck Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) targets in Sokoto on Christmas Day.

Gumi said a source informed him about the plan against him as the operation was underway.

“There was a bombing here; the morning it happened, I received a call—I won’t tell you who called me—but I was told a security briefing was taking place and I was listed among those who will be eliminated as Boko Haram,” the Kaduna-based cleric said.

Gumi, who has often advocated negotiating with bandits, condemned foreign military intervention in Nigeria.

The cleric argued that foreign powers create more problems than they solve once allowed to intervene militarily in a nation’s domestic affairs.

“They claim to have come here to fight terrorists, but they are the actual terrorists,” he stated.

Gumi faulted northern political and religious leaders for failing to speak up against attacks.

“The north, you all know they attacked, but where are your leaders and what have they done about it?” he asked.
