…As Nat. Steering Committee Records over 1million new members
From Idu Jude, Abuja
The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the LP, Senator Nenadi Usman has stated that work is in progress to return the party to its glorious old days.
Senator Usman made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while assuming office at the National Headquarters of the party in Utako District, Abuja.
She said that the day marks a very important day in the history of the Labour Party, stressing that what the stakeholders thought would be a smooth sail ended up as a prolonged court battle.
Senator Nenadi, said, “Today we are here and I am promising all party faithful that we are going to do the right thing at the right time because all we need is to develop this great party and to give it the name, the size, and the push that it truly deserves”.
Meanwhile, Senator Nenadi, has denied rumours of internal wrangling between her leadership and the labour unions including the NLC and TUC.
She said that any existing issues were handled naturally. “Yes in the past there may have been some issues but we handled it naturally and taking a look at our last meeting and that of today, you will see representatives of the labour union. So that is to say that we are one and don’t forget that we are humans and we keep having differences but we should not allow that to kill our collective ambitions”.

Also speaking, to update journalists on the ongoing membership e-revalidation exercise, Chairman of the steering committee, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu, said the committee has so far registered over one million members and is still counting. He said that e-revalidation is still ongoing while urging all Nigerians to key into the Labour Party as the only political party with policies meant for the masses.
“It is on record that since inception, counting from 1999, the Labour Party has been able to prove to Nigerians that campaigns are no longer rhetoric at every part of Nigeria and particularly in Abia State, where the Governor has been able to prove that truly that Nigeria can work”.
The Deputy Governor, however, thanked all Nigerians and party faithful for giving the Labour Party their support throughout the time of litigation till taking over the office. “I would like party stakeholders here present to also join hands in making sure that we have a great labour party for all and such that will replicate itself in the 2027 general elections, where we look forward to winning more states, more Senatorial Seats, more seats at the lower chamber, and the state houses of Assemblies.
Commenting on the possibility of Mr. Peter Obi coming back to join the Labour Party, he said, “The Labour Party is a National party. It is not a cult group where people will be restricted from coming in. Even if Mr. President can decide that on or before the 2027 elections, he can become a member, we will accept him. So it is a party that is there for every Nigerian to belong as a member”.
While providing answers to questions, the interim National Secretary of the party, Senator Darlington Nwokocha clarified that despite the party missing out in the forthcoming FCT area council polls, the congress shall take place in the FCT through which new party executives will emerge.
“This Congress, is for local government, States, and National executives. It is not just for elections. So let’s not mix things here. So for the fact that the FCT is part of Nigeria, and as far as we are going to have a general convention, the FCT will be part of it”.
