The South-West Secretary, National Youth Mobilisation of All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Idris Aregbe, has urged youths across the nation to shun violence and cast their ballot peacefully.
Aregbe also urged voters to make informed decisions and vote for their preferred candidates without rancour.
He made the plea in a statement made available to the media, according to him, the Nigerian political terrain became rife with mudslinging, hate speeches, and misinformation of all sorts in the past few months leading to the general elections.
Aregbe urged Nigerians, particularly the youths to shun insults that
became tradable commodities to push the agenda of many camps during electioneering.
The statement read, “As I have always done, I sincerely appeal to fellow Nigerians, especially youth, to desist from being used for any act of brigandage, violence, rigging, or other sanctionable offense that may run foul of penal and electoral laws of the land.
“Electing the right president is not a function of sentimental words or the mere whipping up emotions against opposition without any clear-cut strategy on how to move the nation forward.
It is instructive that voters make informed choices by finding out for themselves which candidate is best for the job, taking into account their past record of achievements to ensure the prosperous nation we want, which is the reason why I am appealing for us to cast our votes peacefully for the candidates of our choice. Downplaying the ethnic and religious cards is a logical necessity at this juncture.”
