Socio-political activist and critic, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, has applauded the Tinubu administration on its determination to fight corruption headlong and for reducing the cost of governance in view of the deplorable and devastating economic situation in the country.

“It’s too early to assess the Tinubu administration but the way and manner the government is fighting corruption is highly commendable, and it gives Nigerians a ray of hope,” he said in a statement.

The social critic also noted the government’s reduction of entourage on foreign and local trips, advising governors and local governments chairmen to follow suit.

He advised the National Assembly and all other Federal Government’s parastatals and agencies to emulate Tinubu’s example to cut their expenses.

Onitiri, however, implored Tinubu to take the fight against corruption to a logical conclusion, and all ill-gotten billions of Naira and Dollars should be retrieved without minding whose ox is gored.

“We need more transparency and credibility in governance. There is also an urgent need to cut the humongous emoluments and allowances paid to the National Assembly members without delay.

“The money paid to these few Nigerians is too outrageous. Nigerians are yearning to know the take home pay of our honourable members. They (legislators) cannot be living in affluence while the majority of Nigerians wallow in abject poverty.”

Onitiri emphasised that the salaries of the legislators should be disclosed to the public. The salaries and allowances of our honourable ministers and government functionaries should be cut and reduced.

“Nigerians are also tired of foreign loans. We need to look inwards and open up the economy for local investors. We should encourage our youths to go into full mechanised farming,” Onitiri added.
