Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare and living condition of corp members serving in the state.

This is just as the state government commenced construction of new hostel facility at the  permanent orientation camp of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Ikare-Akoko.

The state Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa while speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 of the new corps members posted to the state, said his administration will ensure speedy completion of all the ongoing projects at the orientation camp.

The Governor informed the corps members that construction had commenced on the 216 bed capacity hostel accommodation earlier approved by the state government, adding that the project is progressing steadily and would be completed and opened for use within the shortest possible time.

He assured the corps members that their welfare and safety remain a top priority of his administration, noting that peace and security have been sustained across the state through collaboration with security agencies.

He encouraged the corps members to perform their duties with confidence and dedication, assuring them of full government support throughout their service year.

Governor Aiyedatiwa who spoke through the commissioner for Youths and Sport Development, Hon. Segun Henry Omoyofunmi, urged the corps members to see their stay in Ondo State as an opportunity for impact and positive transformation beyond the fulfilment of statutory obligations.

He advised them to integrate with host communities, learn from the people, and contribute meaningfully to community development while serving with integrity and humility.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the NYSC  Governing Board in the state who was represented by the Director of Youths in the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mrs. Catherine Okupke acknowledged the contributions of previous batches of corps members who served across the state with distinction.

He expressed confidence that the new Corps Members would sustain the legacy of excellence and leave positive marks in their places of assignment.

The Board Chairman advised the corps members to embrace humility, discipline and dedication as guiding principles during the orientation exercise and throughout their service year.

He reminded them that their conduct represents the NYSC, their families, educational institutions they attended and personal values.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, described the orientation course as a core pillar of the scheme designed to prepare Corps Members physically, mentally and emotionally for national service.

She explained that the programme includes paramilitary drills, leadership and citizenship training, lectures, social activities, and the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme aimed at equipping participants with practical skills for self reliance and life after service.

Mrs. Bakare urged the corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, comply strictly with camp regulations and respect constituted authorities, stressing that discipline, humility and teamwork are essential for a successful service year.

She also appealed to employers and community leaders to continue supporting corps members posted to their establishments through conducive working environments, accommodation and welfare assistance.
