Renowned Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, has commended musician, Masked Mykatee (MMT), for his dedication to using music for social transformation, emphasizing the genre’s historical and contemporary role in catalyzing social reform and national development.

Falana gave the commendation in his keynote address at the grand unveiling of “MMT for Social Change,” an innovative initiative led by Masked Mykatee (MMT), held at the Radisson Blu hotel, Ikeja.

The project aims to leverage music as a force for unity, social development, and the empowerment of Nigerian citizens.

Falana extolled the power of music to transcend barriers, foster shared identity, and combat issues like tribalism and ethnic divisions. 

Reflecting on his experiences with legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and other icons like Bob Marley, Sonny Okosun, and Peter Tosh, he highlighted music’s potential to unify and inspire collective action in Nigeria.

The event also featured a panel session moderated by Prof. Silk Ugwu Ogbu of Lagos Business School. Distinguished speakers, including Zakka Bala, Nkechi Ali-Balogun, Dr. Desmond Ekeh, and Dr. Omotola Bamigbaiye, shared their insights on harnessing music for social change.

Masked Mykatee passionately articulated his mission, explaining that his mask symbolizes neutrality and an unbiased commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
