Kano/ Jigawa Area Command Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded detentions and seizures of nine major items valued at N1,018,971,728.02.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Command ‘s headquarters at Bompai, Kano, the Area Controller, Kano/ Jigawa Area Command, U. U Adamu explained the seizures were recorded since the 1st of January, 2026.
He said the seizure included 106, 500 US Dollars, 134,256 riyals, 28 Chnenes Yuan and 20 Ghana Cedis of undisclosed foreign currencies intercepted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
Adamu added that they equally intercepted 1447 pieces of smuggled used pneumatic tyres valued at 28,226.914 along Yan Awaki Area, eastern Bye Pass, Kano while adding that on the 20 and the 22nd of January, they arrested two smuggled Dong Feng vehicles valued at N97,747,666 million, one of which was found to contain six silver metal bars weighing 12.2 kilograms and valued at N61 million.
He explained that the vehicles were intercepted along Hadijia Road and Maiduguri Road in the metropolis respectively, adding that the alleged offenders in these instances contravened Sections 233 and Section 55(f) of the Nigeria Customs Act.

He informed the media that an outbound passenger was also arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, with silver metal bars weighing 22.80 kilograms concealed in his baggage while noting that the passenger failed to disclose the said items or to present any export document as required by the extant laws even as he remarked that the passenger and the exhibit have been handed over to the Economic and Financial commission (EFCC) for further action.
Other seizures recorded by the Command during the period under review included a Citroen bus alomg Babura axis in jigawa State conveying 35 bales of second hand clothes valued at 17.5 million, a Howo- brand truck head along katsina –kano axis valued at 34.8m, intercepted another Howo truck along Ajiri village in Ungogo LGA of Kano State loaded with 2765cartoons of smuggled foreign spaghetti valued at N49.8 million .
The Controller insisted that the Kano Jigawa Area Command will continue to strengthen its collaboration with sister regulatory and security agencies in line with the policy Thrust of the Comptroller – General of the Service while appealing to the general public to help admonish those involved in economic sabotage against the country.
He assured that the command would remain resolute in enforcing the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant laws warning anyone engaged in illegal activities to cease immediately .
