The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has commiserated with the Commissioner for Higher Education, Yusuf Kofar Mata, over the loss of his daughter, elder sister and sister-in-law in a fire incident.

This is contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature.

Daily Sun reported that Kofar Mata shared the devastating news on Facebook on Wednesday.

He said his daughter Maimuna (Islam), elder sister Hajiya Khadija and brother’s wife Hajiya Juwairiyya died in the inferno.

Commiserating with the commissioner, the governor expressed profound shock over the incident.

He described the incident as shocking and devastating as it resulted in the loss of lives of three innocent citizens of the state and property of huge value.

“We received with shock the sad news of the fire incident that led to the loss of three siblings of one of us, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata at his residence in Kofar Mata quarters within the Kano metropolis.

“It is indeed a sad, heartbreaking, and unfortunate incident that will linger in our memory for a very long period of time in view of its devastating consequences,” the governor said.

On behalf of the government, state executive council members, and good people of the state, Governor Yusuf extended condolences to the commissioner and his families, beseech Almighty Allah to grant eternal rest to the departed souls and prevent further occurrence of such ugly incidents in future.

Bature disclosed that the governor led members of the state executive council and other dignitaries to the funeral rites of the deceased persons in the early hours of Wednesday.
