The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Major, on Wednesday took a swipe at the Federal Government over the worsening wave of insecurity across the country, declaring that “enough is enough” and urging authorities to abandon mere rhetoric for decisive, intelligence-driven action against criminal elements.

Speaking in Abuja, Major said the continued killings in different parts of Nigeria have left citizens living in fear, insisting that the primary responsibility of any government is to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

He stressed that while prayers remain important, they cannot substitute for effective intelligence gathering, coordinated security operations and the arrest and prosecution of those sponsoring criminal activities.

“The killings must stop. Nigerians should be able to travel freely from one part of the country to another without fear. Security agencies must work together, share intelligence and ensure the safety of lives and property,” he declared.

The NNPP chairman lamented that insecurity has become so alarming that many Nigerians now avoid travelling by road, while the soaring cost of air transport has placed safer alternatives beyond the reach of millions.

According to him, the growing climate of fear is hurting businesses, disrupting economic activities and undermining public confidence in the country’s security architecture.

Major urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve collaboration among the nation’s security agencies and ensure that those aiding or financing criminal activities are identified and brought to justice.

On the affairs of the party, the NNPP leader announced that the party has commenced uploading details of its candidates for the forthcoming elections following the resolution of its protracted leadership crisis.

He disclosed that the party had appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a short extension to enable it complete the upload process, explaining that delays in the implementation of court judgments disrupted its election timetable.

Major said the NNPP had already completed the upload of its polling agents, while the submission and verification of nomination forms for candidates contesting various elective offices are currently ongoing.

He also announced that the party has restored its authentic 2022 Constitution and Manifesto, assuring members that all party activities would henceforth be guided strictly by those documents.

The NNPP national chairman further revealed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) would convene in the coming weeks to ratify decisions taken by the interim leadership and consolidate preparations for the elections.

Expressing appreciation to loyal members, Major thanked the party’s founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu, supporters across Nigeria and members in the diaspora for standing firmly behind the party throughout its prolonged legal battle.

He equally praised the judiciary for standing by the rule of law despite what he described as attempts by some interests to intimidate judges handling the party’s cases.

However, Major expressed displeasure over the delay in implementing court judgments affecting the NNPP, saying the development placed the party at a disadvantage in preparing for the elections.

He appealed to INEC to promptly enforce valid court decisions in the interest of democracy, fairness and the rule of law.
As part of efforts to strengthen the party’s leadership structure, Major announced the appointment of Ambassador Shaibu Ahmed as the Deputy Chairman of the NNPP Board of Trustees, saying the decision was reached at an emergency meeting held in Lagos.

He assured party faithful that the NNPP has emerged stronger from its internal challenges and remains united, focused and determined to offer Nigerians a credible political alternative ahead of future elections.

Major also appealed to the media to continue to accord the party fair and balanced coverage as it intensifies preparations for the polls.
