The Rock of Israel Ministry has provided food support to 300 Nigerians to cushion the effect of the hard times in the country.
The quarterly food distribution outreach tagged “Food Bank” was led by the General Overseer, Rev. Olayinka Adebiyi, and held at the church’s headquarters in Ojodu, Lagos.
The initiative aims to assist vulnerable individuals and families struggling to meet basic food needs. Beneficiaries received essential food items including 10kg bags of garri, rice, and beans, with both families and single men and women taking home multiple food packs.
The food bank initiative is part of the broader mission of the church to demonstrate practical Christian love by supporting those who cannot afford basic necessities.
Scores of residents within the environment as well as members of the church gathered at the church premises to benefit from the gesture, many expressing appreciation for the timely support.
Speaking on the motivation behind the programme, Rev. Adebiyi explained that the idea was inspired by a visit to Canada last year, where she observed a church-run food bank serving the local community.

“While walking around a church in Canada, we saw a food bank and felt we could do something similar for our community. That was how we began planning,” she said. “Some Nigerians cannot afford basic food items, so in our own little way we want to show them love and let them know that God cares for them.”
She urged Nigerians to show compassion toward the less privileged, citing biblical teachings on mercy and generosity. “When you are merciful, God will also show you mercy. We should give to others and help those who do not have,” she added.
Rev. Adebiyi expressed joy at the turnout and impact of the maiden edition, saying, “We saw people who truly needed the food and they came. Seeing them go home smiling with the bags of food brought me great joy.”
She noted that the project was supported by church members, former members, and her children based abroad, emphasizing that it was a collective effort rather than a personal undertaking.
In his message to the people titled “Character That Sustains Promotion,” Pastor Waheed Adebiyi highlighted the role of integrity and humility in maintaining success. He stressed that promotion comes from God, but character sustains it, adding that private discipline leads to public success, while consistency builds legacy.
Similarly, the church’s lead pastor, Pastor Alfred Jarikrie, who moderated the Bible forum on “The Weight of Promotion,” reminded the people that advancement brings greater visibility and responsibility, urging them to uphold godly character.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Daniel, praised the initiative and the convener’s generosity. He described the support as unprecedented, noting that the quantity of food distributed surpassed what is commonly given in similar programmes.
