The Federal Government has launched a digital facility, Federal Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP), to track financial allocation and spending of the universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, told journalists in Abuja, on Tuesday, that the initiative will allow real-time tracking of funding, performance, and resource allocation across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The Minister said the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency and good governance across public institutions.
“This marks a major milestone in our collective journey to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance. This platform will restore public trust and enable evidence-based policies and reforms aimed at improving performance-based funding decisions and resource allocation.
“For the first time, Nigeria would have a unified system offering real-time visibility into student enrolment and government funding. This would also include visibility in TETFund allocations, NELFund interventions, research grants, and institutional performance indicators. This platform would end years of fragmented and inconsistent data collection across institutions.”
He emphasised that the platform was not merely a data tool but a reform instrument to drive efficiency and results-based management in tertiary education. “Institutions are now required to submit data quarterly, with financial reporting tied to institutional performance and eligibility for future funding and interventions.

“For many years, data on tertiary education in Nigeria has been scattered across multiple platforms, paper reports, and inconsistent submissions. The FTIGTP serves as a single, nationwide source of accurate data and financial information about tertiary institutions.
“This platform will enhance financial transparency, improve resource allocation, promote accountability, discourage the misuse of funds, and foster trust in the management of our tertiary system,” he said.
Similarly, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, commended the initiative as a crucial step in modernising Nigeria’s education governance framework.
“This represents a significant step forward in promoting transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
“The FTIGTP offers a unified platform for accessing essential information across our institutions, aligning with the Ministry’s digital transformation agenda.”
She urged tertiary institutions to fully utilise and regularly update the portal to ensure its sustainability and long-term impact.
