NANS national leadership visits Ogun health poly, harps on security, students welfare

…inspects projects, decorates rector as ‘Aluta general’

The National Secretariat of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Wednesday paid a solidarity visit to the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu, as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with tertiary institutions and advance the welfare of students.

The delegation, led by the NANS Secretary General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, was received on campus by the institution’s management led by the Rector, Dr. Rasak Akinbo, and by the Students’ Union Government leadership comprising both outgoing and newly elected executives headed by Comrade Blessiny Alao.

In a statement issued by the Secretary General on Thursday, NANS said the visit was aimed at addressing critical issues affecting students and assessing infrastructural development at the polytechnic.

According to the statement, during engagement with management and student representatives, discussions focused on NELFUND, school fees increment, campus security, students’ welfare and NANS’ ongoing campaign against social vices within tertiary institutions.

It said the delegation also inspected ongoing projects across the campus aimed at improving the learning environment.

NANS commended the institution for its infrastructural efforts but stressed that projects must be completed to standard and made beneficial to students.

Uthman emphasized the need for continuous collaboration between the institution’s management, SUG, and NANS to address emerging challenges and create a conducive environment for learning, leadership development, and students’ welfare.

As a gesture of goodwill, the NANS Secretary General presented the organisation’s souvenir to the Rector and decorated him as a “5-Star Aluta General” in recognition of the cordial relationship between NANS and the institution.

The apex students body said the visit underscores its commitment to taking students’ representation beyond advocacy through direct engagement with institutional authorities and students across the country.

The association reiterated its resolve to ensure effective representation, constructive engagement, students’ welfare, campus security, and protection of the legitimate interests of Nigerian students.
