The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the commencement of the application process for the second cohort of its flagship Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, inviting interested Nigerians to enrol in the nationwide skills development initiative designed to strengthen technical capacity and address unemployment.

The ministry said the application exercise, which officially kicks off on Monday, reinforces its commitment to equipping Nigerian youths with practical skills that support job creation, entrepreneurship, and national development.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, in a statement signed by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations, described the TVET Programme as a strategic intervention aimed at empowering young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills needed to thrive in today’s evolving economy.

He confirmed that some changes have been introduced in the second cohort to further strengthen the exercise and ensure maximum results and impact.

He said: “The training will cover a wide range of high-demand sectors, including Construction, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Automotive Technology, Creative Media, Agriculture, Fashion and Garment Production, Cosmetology, Tourism and Hospitality, Catering Services, and Leather Works, among others.

“Importantly, applicants would also be required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during the registration process.”

The minister said the programme will offer intensive six-month and one-year hands-on training, respectively, in accredited training centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He disclosed that participants will receive a monthly stipend of ₦22,500 throughout the duration of their training and will be awarded a nationally recognised certification upon successful completion.

“To ensure transparency and accountability, attendance will be strictly monitored using biometric verification systems, and stipends will only be paid to trainees who meet the programme’s attendance requirements.

“Applicants are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to learning practical skills and must be available for full and consistent participation throughout the training period.”

The ministry encouraged all eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire market-relevant skills that promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and economic productivity.
