Ex MACBAN national Chairman urges pastoralists to embrace peace, unity

The former National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), and Special Adviser to Kebbi State Governor on Normadic Fulanis,Alhaji Muhammad Kiruwa has called on pastoralist communities in the state to strengthen peace, unity, and social cohesion among themselves.

Kiruwa, stated in Birnin Kebbi while flagging off the distribution of relief materials to Fulani communities across the state.

He explained that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris are committed to sustaining peaceful coexistence, unity, and development among the diverse communities in the state.

According to him, “ On behalf of His Excellency, I urge you to desist from all forms of social vices, particularly drug abuse among youths in our communities. Many of the challenges of banditry and criminality in our communities can be traced to the menace of drug abuse.

“ Combating this problem cannot be left to government alone; it requires collective responsibility. We must talk to our children and identify those involved in drug use so that they can be rehabilitated and reoriented,” Kiruwa-Zuru said.

He urged pastoralists to support government’s peacebuilding initiatives and to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in order to elect leaders who would advance their collective interests and aspirations.

Kiruwa reiterated the Governor’s commitment to ensure that all communities, particularly pastoralists, benefit from the dividends of democracy through inclusive governance, empowerment, and improved access to social amenities.

In his remarks, Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris represented by the Commissioner for Animal Health, Fisheries and Husbandry, Alhaji Kabiru Alaramma, commended the initiative, describing it as a reflection of his administration’s inclusive leadership style and commitment to the welfare of pastoralists.

“ The construction of the best veterinary hospital, not only in Nigeria but in the West African sub-region, is ongoing and will soon be completed.

“ So far, we have over 172 veterinary personnel manning our facilities across the state, so we have no problem of manpower ,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of MACBAN in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Malam Umaru Wakili, lauded the state government and other stakeholders for their support toward the success of the programme.

“ We also commend the women participants who play critical roles in promoting peace and stability in rural communities,” he said.
