The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the fight against money laundering, smuggling, and other economic crimes threatening Nigeria’s development.
This resolution was reached on Monday, October 6, 2025, when the newly appointed Customs Area Controller of the Oyo and Osun Area Command, Comptroller G. I. Aliyu, paid a familiarization visit to the Acting Director of the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Office, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Hauwa Garba Ringim.
Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Aliyu described the Nigeria Customs Service as a critical revenue-generating agency that shares the EFCC’s vision of combating economic infractions. He emphasized that the partnership between both agencies is vital in curbing illicit financial flows, trade-based money laundering, and contraband smuggling.
“Our mandates intersect in various operations from curbing illicit financial flow to trade-based money laundering, intercepting contraband goods, and enforcing fiscal policies. The need for continued intelligence sharing and mutual support cannot be overemphasized,” Aliyu said.
He reaffirmed his command’s commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration with the EFCC and other security and law enforcement bodies, adding that such synergy would help curb economic sabotage and improve national revenue.
Aliyu also commended the leadership of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, for the Commission’s achievements in asset recovery, enforcement, prevention, and public enlightenment on corruption and economic crimes.
