The trio of Augustine Udemba, Nelson Onyedikachi Udemba and Ifesinachi Eze have regained their freedom nine months after being detained on allegation of involvement in IPOB/ESN activities and killing of seven herders.

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the trio, who had been detained since October 27, 2024, were released on Monday and reunited with their families.

The lawyer said the release of the suspects was part of a long series of ongoing intervention with the Department of State Services (DSS) to free all long stay detainees or charge them to court.

Adeyanju expressed gratitude to the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi for facilitating the release of the “wrongfully detained” individuals.

He said, “The trio of Augustine Udemba, Nelson Onyedikachi Udemba and Ifesinachi Eze, who were arrested on 27th Oct 2024 and wrongfully detained on allegation of involvement in IPOB/ESN activities and killing of 7 herders, were released yesterday.

“They have been reunited with their families.

“This is a long series of ongoing intervention with the DSS to free all long stay detainees or charge them to court.

“We are currently working on more than 20 cases with the service and want to thank the DG of DSS for his commitment to ensure the right thing is done.

“We are aware there are hundreds of Nigerians with similar issues and we are further appealing to the DG for a speedy process in the ongoing reforms.”
