The member representing Ughelli North Constituency I at the Delta State House of Assembly, Matthew Omonade has been suspended over allegations of gross misconduct.

Omonade, a member of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) is to stay away from legislative business for fourteen days, during which a five-man ad-hoc committee is expected to investigate the allegations and make recommendation.

He was ordered to hand over all government properties in his possession to the state House of Assembly while the punitive sanction lasts.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dominated House is accusing the main opposition party lawmaker of wilfully and falsely perverting proceedings of the House on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Speaker of the House, Mr. Emomotimi Guwor, handed down the suspension on Tuesday during plenary following a motion to that effect by the Majority Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi.

The motion which was supported by the Chief Whip of the House, Mr. Perkins Umukoro and was unanimously adopted by the House.

Moving the motion, Emeka Nwaobi said: “I move that: the Honourable member representing Ughelli North I State Constituency be now suspended from the service of the House for a period of 14( fourteen ) legislative days, for gross misconduct;

“The Honourable Member representing Ughelli North I state Constituency hands over to the management of the House all Government properties in his possession.”

He also moved that “An Ad-hoc Committee be constituted to investigate the gross misconduct by the Honourable member representing Ughelli North I state Constituency.”
