Dangote Petroleum Refinery says it will begin the nationwide distribution of diesel and premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, starting from August 15.
This initiative will include free logistics support and a network of over 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to deliver Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel to marketers, petrol stations, manufacturers, telecom firms, aviation operators, and other major users across the country.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday by Dangote Refinery.
“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability, and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” a statement from the Dangote Refinery noted. “It affirms our dedication to improving the availability and affordability of fuel, in support of broader efforts to strengthen the economy and improve the well-being of all Nigerians.”
In addition to its 4,000-strong tanker fleet, the refinery is also investing in CNG “daughter booster” stations to serve remote and underserved areas.
A dedicated fleet of more than 100 CNG tankers will support this effort.
The refinery emphasized that all petrol stations purchasing PMS and diesel from its facility will benefit from the free delivery service, which is expected to significantly reduce transportation-related expenses—one of the major contributors to the cost of fuel at the pump.
“Players in key sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunications, and others can purchase directly from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery,” the statement said. “Reduced fuel costs will contribute to lower production costs, reduced inflation, and foster economic growth.”
In a further effort to ease access and encourage bulk purchasing, Dangote Refinery will also introduce a credit facility for buyers of at least 500,000 litres. Eligible customers will be able to access an additional 500,000 litres on credit for a two-week period, provided they secure a bank guarantee.
“This pioneering effort marks a major milestone in our vision to revolutionise Nigeria’s energy sector. Dangote Refinery is dedicated to ensuring that no place is left behind,” the company stated.
“Our goal is to provide equitable access to affordable fuel for all Nigerians, regardless of location, making energy more accessible and sustainable for everyone, wherever they may be.”
Beyond economic efficiency, the initiative also promises social and developmental benefits. By revitalising dormant fuel stations, the plan is expected to generate employment, empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and improve energy access in rural communities.
“It is expected to revitalise previously inactive petrol stations, thereby driving job creation, stimulating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), increasing government revenue, improving fuel access in rural and underserved communities, and strengthening investor confidence in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector,” the statement read.
