Abia would no longer use contracts award as political patronage – SSA, Due Process

From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The Abia State government has said the era of using government contracts for political patronages as well as to settle and satisfy family or village members, cronies, and well-wishers, to the detriment of the greater percentage of people of the state, is gone for good.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Abia State Governor on Due Process and Procurement, Dr Oluebube A. Chukwu who disclosed this after the flag-off ceremony of Boulevard in Umuahia, insisted that Governor Otti was very meticulous and only concerned with excellent performance, accountability, and probity.

He said the construction of the Boulevard was in keeping with the campaign manifesto of the present Labour Party administration in Abia State, which promised a new Abia, comfortable to live and do business.

Chukwu said that the project was awarded to a grade A construction firm, Craneburg Construction Company (CCC), which was in tandem with Gov Otti’s belief in quality jobs.

“Governor Otti is a man with high taste in projects, and has the potential, and penchant for quality output and this is why Craneburg Construction Company won the bid for the road contract.”

He noted the process of engaging more grade-A construction firms to handle Civil and Structural Construction in different parts of the state is ongoing, adding that now the rainy season is gradually going, massive commissioning of completed infrastructural projects in the state would soon follow.

Dr Chukwu informed that the Due Process Office with other relevant Government MDAs, will from time to time embark on routine monitoring and supervision of Capital Projects in the state to ensure quality and durability, adding that they will not hesitate to stop work at any project site that falls below standard.
