Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, son of former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has emerged as the deputy governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The announcement was made following a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Bompai-Miller Road residence of the former governor.
Mustapha will serve as running mate to Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who was earlier selected by the party’s leadership as its flag-bearer for the 2027 governorship election.

A statement by the spokesman of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, yesterday, confirmed that the party’s governorship candidate had unveiled the younger Kwankwaso as his running mate.
Mustapha had served as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in the state but had resigned his appointment from the cabinet following the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With the appointment of its running mate completed and its candidates for elective offices selected, it is expected that the party in the state will soon announce its full campaign structure and commence consultations with party stakeholders in preparation for the 2027 governorship elections.
