In a vibrant celebration of African culture, heritage, and identity, London hosted the inaugural Cultural Hangout Festival (CHF) on May 25–26, to mark Africa Day.
The festival, held in South Kensington, proudly endorsed by the African Union, brought together Africans, people of African descent, and global enthusiasts of African culture for a groundbreaking cultural experience.
Officially opened by the Founder and CEO of CHF, Mr Aihawu Victor Michael, the festival kicked off with a passionate address calling for a renewed connection to African roots.
“Africa is not just a place; it is a story, a rhythm, a spirit that lives in all of us. Our heritage is our strength, our unity is our future,” he declared.
The two-day festival featured a diverse line-up of events, including trade-focused discussions, spoken word poetry, interactive quiz sessions, and a lively Children’s Corner filled with African-themed games and storytelling.
At the heart of the celebration was an Afrocentric exhibition, showcasing vibrant fashion pieces, handcrafted art, and cultural collectibles from across the continent.
The festival also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Nigeria, was represented and shared remarks emphasising the role of diaspora collaboration in promoting African unity and development.
Attendees were further inspired by a pre-recorded keynote speech from Angela Naa Afoley Odai of the African Union Diaspora Directorate, who called on Africans worldwide to take pride in their heritage and contribute to the continent’s global influence.
Attendees and exhibitors alike praised the festival’s atmosphere, inclusivity, and purpose.
“This is the most engaging event I’ve attended this year,” said one participant, capturing the widespread enthusiasm.
Organisers have confirmed that the Cultural Hangout Festival will be an annual global event, dedicated to advancing African cultural pride, building economic bridges, and fostering greater unity among Africans at home and abroad.
