The Osun state government has explained that the division of 55.6-kilometre Iwo/Osogbo/Ibadan road project among three contractors was to expedite its completion and alleviate transportation challenges between Osun and Oyo states.

This, according to the government, was aimed at improving connectivity and stimulate economic activities along the express corridors.

Engr. Moruf Ojebode, the Director of Highways, during a recent inspection of the dual carriageway, noted that this project marks the first of its kind in Iwo. “This administration awarded a 3.6KM dual carriageway from Odo-Ori market to Oja-Oba to Post office,” Ojebode stated.

He added that the project is progressing well with drainage, walkways, and a median under construction.

According to him, the future phases of the project, indicating that the second phase, which connects the dual carriageway to Iwo/Ibadan road, will commence soon.

He noted that the completed internal roads had further contributed to the town’s infrastructure, saying “The success we have on the road is 50%.

Addressing the Iwo/Osogbo/Ibadan road project, Ojebode announced that the work has been allocated to three contractors: Peculiar Ultimate Concerns, Kimzee Global Resources, and A’skorg Integrated Service Limited. He said the contractors are expected to start mobilizing this month.

Meanwhile, residents of Iwo have expressed their appreciation for the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, particularly lauding the construction of a 3.6-kilometre dual carriageway in the town and ongoing infrastructural improvements.

Community members posited that these projects significantly enhance mobility, safety, and local economic growth, leading to improved traffic flow and better access to businesses and public institutions.

Professor Lai Olurode, Chairman of the Iwo Board of Trustees, praised the government’s efforts, describing the dual carriageway as a significant development. “Though it’s just a 3.6-kilometre road, this is the first of its kind in Iwo local government, indicating a positive shift in infrastructure,” he added.

He also called on residents to support Adeleke in the upcoming elections, positing that continuity in leadership could lead to further development.

Local leaders, including Chief Mujidat Sarumi, the Iyaloja of Iwo land, emphasized that the ongoing road projects will boost economic activities in their community, urging improved voter turnout in favor of Adeleke for a second term.

Residents like Mrs. Taofeekat Iris, urged the contractors to expedite construction so that economic activities along the corridor can flourish, while members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) noted the anticipated reduction in vehicle maintenance costs following the road improvements.
