Oluwatoyin Makinde recently made his father, His Eminence Dr. Ola Sunday Makinde, a happy and proud man when he led his sisters, Bidemi, Oyeyemi and brother, Temilolu Makinde to throw a classy party to celebrate his 80th birthday. A trained Pure Chemistry graduate from the University of Abuja, who caught the IT bug after his first degree, Oluwatoyin couldn’t hide his love for his dad —the former prelate of the Methodist Church— who he described as a Soldier of Christ that preaches salvation and holiness. To the appreciative son, his dad remains an astute scholar, a super prayer warrior, a religious leader par excellence, a fearless man, a disciplinarian, a voice for the voiceless, a philanthropist and a loving and caring husband and father.
Fondly remembering some of the memories that really inspired him to celebrate his dad, Oluwatoyin picked the most striking one as when he was leaving for the UK to further his studies in 2002. The journey has seen Oluwatoyin arm himself with an MSC programme in Business Information Systems at the University of Bolton and an MBA degree from the University of Bradford. Oluwatoyin and his siblings thus ensured guests and dignitaries —including serving and former governors: Mr Seyi Makinde, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN and Mr Segun Oni— who attended their father’s birthday, had a swell time.
