Wellington College International recently opened its first African school in Alaro City, Lagos. It was officially launched at the Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event was a major milestone in the expansion of world class British education into Africa.
In his remarks, Paresh Thakrar, Managing Director Wellington College International expressed delight with the berthing of the college at Alaro City while noting that education is the pre-requisite for big cities to grow.
He posited that Wellington College International is committed to grow education in Nigeria, West Africa and other parts of Africa. “The school is unique and adaptable to every culture and environment which makes, Wellington College International Lagos, stands for authenticity” he maintained.
Also, Thakrar highlighted other numerous unique attributes of the college that stands it out from others.
In his speech, Jonny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner, was delighted with the establishment of a premium British International School in Lagos as such educational development stands to strengthen United Kingdom and Nigeria relationship.
He said the United Kingdom supports Nigeria ambition to lead in education in the sub-region. He announced that the British Government currently spends $30billion pounds in development of education in the UK and would soon increase to $40billion.
Baxter asserted that the college would put up a valid World-class education in Nigeria, and this will reduce the huge expenses that Nigerians incur studying abroad.

Scott Bryan, Director of Education Wellington College International Lagos, said the college is a world class two hundred years co- educational school with facilities for boarding, day and weekly schools; and at full capacity will accommodate five hundred and forty students.
He said with English national curriculum and A- level programs, the college will prepare students for the world leading universities. Bryan was optimistic that the college would also lead in artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and well being.
As he reeled out the unique attributes of the college, he informed his audience that the college would emphasize enquiry, discussion, research and critical thinking.
Stephen Jennings, Founder and CEO Rendeavour Company, spoke on issues concerning the structural development of the college complex, which was a masterpiece.
Ayodeji Gheleyi, Director General Bureau Of Public Enterprise (BPE) and Chairman Board of Directors Alaro City, said the college is value driven and reflects its confidence in Lagos State. He applauded the college long standing academic leadership and ability to coexist along cultural and environment lines.
Present at the launching was Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Abimbola Salau-Hundeyin; Ayodeji Gheleyi, Director General Bureau Of Public Enterprise (BPE) and Chairman Board of Directors Alaro City, top government officials.
Other distinguished guests present were L.T General T. Y. Danjuma (rtd); Paresh Thakrar, Managing Director, Wellington College International; Stephen Jennings, Founder and CEO Rendeavour; Scott Bryan, Director Of Education Wellington College International Lagos; Jonny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner, Lagos; members of the diplomatic and business community.
