Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has declared that no amount of pressure or intimidation can silence opposition voices in Nigeria.
Wabara, who stated this while on a get-well visit to a chieftain of the PDP, Chief Bode George, in a London hospital, insisted that a vibrant opposition remains indispensable to democratic governance.
Chief George, a founding member of the PDP, is recuperating after undergoing successful eye surgery in London.
In a statement obtained by our correspondent, the former Senate President said attempts to weaken or stifle opposition parties would ultimately fail. He stressed that democracy thrives on the existence of strong alternative voices capable of holding the government accountable and offering Nigerians credible options.
“Nigeria is too big to be pocketed by any cabal or commercial politician,” Wabara said, insisting that the opposition would continue to speak out on issues affecting the nation and provide constructive alternatives in the interest of the country.
