Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a 99–81 defeat to South Korea in their opening game of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The result means Nigeria are yet to record a victory over an Asian opponent at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and have also failed to win their opening game at the global tournament.

D’Tigress battled throughout the encounter but were unable to contain South Korea’s offensive pressure as the Asian side secured a convincing 18-point victory.

The defeat leaves Nigeria with work to do as they prepare for their next Group game against Hungary.

The clash with Hungary is expected to be another difficult test for the African champions, who will need a strong response to keep their World Cup campaign on track.

Final: Nigeria 81–99 South Korea D’Tigress’ World Cup journey continues against Hungary.
