In the realm of academia, education remains the key to unlocking human potential.

This profound realisation is what drives institutions like Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) to strive for excellence in nurturing the next generation of leaders.

The university recently marked a significant milestone with its 13th Convocation Ceremony.

The ceremony, held at the university’s sprawling campus in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including the governors of Ekiti, Ondo, and Delta states, Biodun Oyebanji, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), amongst other notable dignitaries.

In his address, the Founder and Chancellor of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, expressed his profound gratitude to parents for choosing the institution to train their children.

He said: “The university has consistently proven itself to be a hub for academic excellence, producing graduates who are well-equipped to conquer the world.

“With your continuous cooperation as parents, this university will continue to lead this country in qualitative and functional education,” he assured.

The convocation ceremony also saw the awarding of doctorate degrees to several students, including Uzoma Nwoke, Funmi Oseyemi Amao, and Eniola Rachael Agidigbi, all from the Department of Intelligence and Security Studies.

For Uzoma Nwoke, the Ph.D. degree is a culmination of years of dedication to advancing knowledge in a critically new field. “It’s a deeply fulfilling milestone; being among the first PhD holders in Intelligence and Security Studies in Nigeria and in our department at Afe Babalola University feels historic,” he said.

Funmi Oseyemi Amao, on the other hand, described attaining the PhD as a dream come true. “I’m privileged to be among the first set of ITS Ph.D. to graduate from this noble institution,” she said, adding that studying while working and paying her children’s bills wasn’t easy, but she remained focused.

Eniola Rachael Agidigbi, another graduand, expressed her gratitude to the university and her family for their support. “I’m confident that the knowledge and experience gained at ABUAD will equip me to make a positive impact in the world,” she said.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs & Diaspora, was awarded an honorary doctorate award for her contributions to the nation.

In her acceptance speech, Dabiri-Erewa expressed her profound gratitude to the university for the honour.

“I am humbled and honoured to receive this award. I want to thank the management and council of Afe Babalola University for this recognition.

“This award is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the tireless efforts of all Nigerians in diaspora who are working hard to make a difference in their communities and beyond,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD, Smaranda Olarinde, noted that the university’s convocation lecture is also a prestigious platform for critical reflection and robust intellectual engagement.

“With gratitude to God Almighty and to our great founder, I proudly state that our university continues to soar in global recognition.

“As the graduands embark on their new journey, they carry with them the values and knowledge that the university has instilled in them. They are future leaders, and it’s time for them to make their mark on the world,” she said.
