After more than a decade of recognising the professionals working behind Africa’s biggest music successes, The Beatz Awards has announced a major expansion of its platform, unveiling a broader vision aimed at talent development, industry collaboration and strengthening the continent’s creative economy.
Organisers disclosed on Thursday that the 11th edition of The Beatz Awards will hold on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Shell Hall of the MUSON Centre, Lagos, under the theme, “Behind The Beat & Beyond The Beat.”
Now in its eleventh year, The Beatz Awards has grown into one of Africa’s foremost platforms dedicated to recognising music producers, songwriters, sound engineers, entertainment lawyers, A&R executives, record labels, media practitioners and other professionals whose work continues to shape the music industry behind the scenes.
According to the organisers, the next phase of the awards reflects the changing realities of Africa’s creative ecosystem, where recognition alone is no longer sufficient to sustain the industry’s growth.
They explained that the 2026 edition represents a strategic shift from celebrating excellence alone to creating practical opportunities for learning, innovation, entrepreneurship and long-term professional development for creative talents across the continent.
As part of the expanded vision, several new initiatives will be introduced to complement the annual awards ceremony and provide year-round engagement for both emerging and established professionals in the creative industry.
Among the new programmes is “Beatz To Banger” , a capacity-building initiative designed to equip young music producers and creative entrepreneurs with practical industry knowledge, mentorship opportunities and exposure to experienced professionals within the entertainment ecosystem.
The platform will also continue the publication of *”The Beatz Awards Magazine*”, while significantly expanding its annual calendar to include industry conversations, fireside chats, masterclasses and knowledge-sharing sessions that will bring together creators, business executives, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss the future of Africa’s creative economy.
Founder and Executive Producer of The Beatz Awards, Elijah John, said the decision to broaden the scope of the platform was informed by a desire to contribute more meaningfully to the long-term development of Africa’s music industry.

“For eleven years, we have celebrated the people behind the music. Today, our responsibility goes beyond recognition. We want to help build careers, encourage innovation, support entrepreneurship and create platforms that contribute meaningfully to the future of Africa’s creative industry. That is the vision behind this new chapter of The Beatz Awards,” he said.
John noted that while the awards have successfully spotlighted the often-overlooked professionals responsible for many of Africa’s musical successes, the organisers now believe the platform should play a more active role in building sustainable careers and strengthening the creative ecosystem.
The organisers further disclosed that preparations for the 11th edition have continued to attract support from organisations across the public and private sectors, reflecting increasing confidence in the creative economy as a major driver of innovation, enterprise, economic growth and youth employment.
Among the institutions supporting this year’s edition are the Bank of Industry (BOI), FirstBank, Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Propel Properties, Digital Encode, Doc2Data, Folham, Brawn Onion and Ernnytales LLC.
According to the organisers, the growing support from corporate and institutional partners underscores the increasing recognition of the creative industry as an important contributor to Nigeria’s economic development and global cultural influence.
They also revealed that preparations are underway to introduce new award categories that will reflect the rapidly evolving landscape of music production, creative entrepreneurship, technology, digital innovation and the wider creative economy.
Details of the additional categories, alongside the official call for entries, are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks as activities leading to the awards gather momentum.
As African music continues to gain global prominence and expand into new international markets, the organisers said The Beatz Awards remains committed to ensuring that the professionals responsible for driving the industry’s success receive not only recognition for their contributions but also access to opportunities that will enable them to learn, collaborate, innovate and build sustainable careers.
They added that the expanded vision reinforces the platform’s commitment to nurturing talent, encouraging entrepreneurship and creating stronger connections among creators, industry leaders, investors and policymakers, while contributing to the continued growth of Africa’s creative economy.
With its new direction, The Beatz Awards is positioning itself not only as a platform for celebrating excellence but also as a catalyst for capacity development, industry advancement and the long-term sustainability of Africa’s creative sector.
