Student leaders laud Ogun speaker for responsive leadership, development efforts

Hon. Elemide with Ogun student leaders

The Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has been commended for his continued commitment to public service, developmental initiatives and welfare of students in the state.

The commendation came when the speaker received a delegation of student leaders and stakeholders for a strategic meeting.

According to a statement sent to Daily Sun, the meeting brought together representatives of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun stakeholders led by Comr. Elvis Oluwasegun Ekundina, Comr. Francis Adeyanju, and Comr. Olayinka Oshodi.

Also present was the Deputy Senate President of National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES), Comr. Richard Oyenekan.

Equally at the meeting were delegates from Federal College of Education, Abeokuta Students Union (FCEASU) led by the SUG President, Comr. Abraham Akinlabi, Emeritus President, Comr. David Adebowale Dokunmu, and Comr. Hannah Osedebe, alongside representatives of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Students’ Union (FUNAABSU) led by the President.

It was learnt that the student leaders met the speaker to commend his efforts so far as well as table key concerns affecting students and residents.

The delegation commended the Speaker for his relentless efforts in improving infrastructure and living conditions in Odeda and Ogun State at large.

They specifically appreciated his responsiveness when students planned to protest over poor road conditions.

According to them, instead of allowing tensions to escalate, he engaged the students directly, assured them of action, and has already begun addressing the issue.

“He further pledged that the road from Odeda Local Government Secretariat to Moore Junction will soon receive attention, a commitment the delegation expressed confidence in,” the statement reads in part.

Discussions also covered the bridge project opposite the college campus, and the students expressed satisfaction that the project has not been abandoned.

The speaker was quoted as assuring the delegation he would engage the contractor to accelerate construction, emphasising that the project benefits not only students but all citizens, noting that he personally facilitated its execution.

“Another major concern raised was the waste disposal site at the market area in Osiele.

“The delegation explained that its location causes environmental pollution and health challenges for students and residents due to irregular evacuation of refuse.

“They appealed for urgent intervention to improve waste management in the area.

“The Speaker also informed participants that the stone filling along the Osiele market road is being sponsored by him, adding that such interventions are part of his ongoing personal contributions to community development.

“In recognition of his support and dedication, the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta delegation presented a souvenir to the Speaker as a token of appreciation for his service to students and the wider community.

“Stakeholders described Rt. Hon. Elemide as a leader who genuinely cares for students and citizens.

“They noted his modest leadership style, emphasising that he focuses on impact rather than publicity, believing that the lives he touches will speak on his behalf.

“They concluded that his dedication reflects a strong sense of responsibility to the people who entrusted him with leadership,” the statement further reads.
