The Bishops’ Forum of Nigeria, Pentecostal Churches, Ebonyi State Chapter, has appealed for the release of a cleric in the custody of the Ebonyi State Police Command.
The cleric, Samuel Onyeagoziri Ndubueze, has been in custody for two weeks, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 22-year-old girl.
The lady, Euphemia Ede, accused the cleric of sexually assaulting her for five years, which led to his arrest and detention.
The bishops, in a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Adaku Uche-Anya, regretted the action of Ndubueze against the girl and appealed for his release for amicable resolution of the matter.
In the petition signed by Samuel Onu, the president of the forum, and Samuel Ajah, secretary, the clerics said they were distressed by the scandal.

“We humbly appeal for bail and amicable settlement of the case of sexual abuse, involving our members: Bishop Ndubeze Sam Onyeagoziri, general overseer of Champions, the Truth Cathedral Church, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, who has been in police custody over two weeks, and his secretary, Miss Euphemia Ede, both of whom belong to our Christian faith.
“Sir, we feel pained and bitter that such a case involves our members. It does not only damage their image, moral standing and reputations as Christians, but the entire Christian family and/the body of Christ who we profess.
“Hence, the essence of this letter is to grant us the opportunity to bring the parties together and settle them peacefully so as to stop further explanation and report back to you.
“We sincerely applaud the efforts of the police command in Ebonyi State in carrying out discreet investigation on this matter and who have ensured that the matter didn’t escalate beyond control. We are grateful.
“We pledge that releasing him on bail to us will not by any means jeopardize your investigation or justice in this matter but would bring peace and full repentance between the parties.
“We shall deeply appreciate it if our request is granted. May the wisdom and knowledge of God guide you and be your strength as you discharge your lawful duties all the time, without fear or favour, in Jesus name, Amen,” the bishops said.
