Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has mourned the death of veteran actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing him as a cultural icon and an illustrious son of Ogun state.
Ogogo died on Sunday aged 66 after battling stage 4 cancer.
In a condolence message on Monday, the governor said the passing of the Ilaro-born actor was “a painful and irreplaceable loss” to his family, the people of Ilaro and Yewaland, Ogun State, and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry.
“Ogogo was a cultural icon whose remarkable career brought joy to millions and contributed immensely to the growth of our film industry and the promotion of Yoruba culture and values.
“His legacy and contributions will undoubtedly live on for generations,” Abiodun said.

The governor, on behalf of his family, the state government and the people of Ogun, commiserated with the deceased’s family, the people of Ilaro and the entertainment industry.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give everyone he left behind the fortitude to bear this painful loss,” he prayed.
Meanwhile, the actor’s daughter, Kira Taiwo, disclosed in a Monday post on Instagram that her father reassured his children and urged them to be strong weeks before his death.
According to her, the conversation occurred on July 26, 2026.
“How are you? I heard you are crying. Seeing you and your sisters smile is making me strong. If you cry, it will make me sad, and I will start to think,” she quoted the actor as saying.
