Former Adamawa State Governor Jibrilla Bindow has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his three-year absence from the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bindow formally re-registered as an APC member at his ward in Mubi, Adamawa State, on Sunday.
The former governor left the party in January 2023 after losing the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 election.
Explaining his return, Bindow said he made the decision after holding extensive consultations with political associates and trusted confidants.
He also said he had remained mindful of party discipline and avoided actions that could be construed as working against the APC.
According to him, he consulted Vice-President Kashim Shettima before deciding to return to the ruling party, describing Shettima as his brother and confidant.
Bindow also referred to a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, describing the encounter as “pleasant and memorable”.
The former governor said he was returning to the APC with the intention of contributing to its success rather than pursuing personal political interests.
“I am back to the APC not to divide, but to contribute; not to fight, but to build; and above all, to work with the party and its candidates toward victory,” Bindow said.
He pledged to support APC candidates in Adamawa State and participate actively in efforts to secure electoral victories for the party in the 2027 elections.
Bindow had earlier shown interest in contesting the 2027 Adamawa governorship election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but withdrew from the race in May.
His return to the APC comes as political parties and their major stakeholders intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
