The House of Representatives Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC) has said it would ensure the N250 billion appropriated for the commission in the 2025 fiscal year is judiciously utilised.

Chairman of the Committee, Chris Nkwonta, in a statement, said the panel would be strict in the discharge of its oversight function to ensure transparency and accountability in the interventionist agency.

The Committee had approved a N250 billion take-off budget for the SEDC last week. However, there have  been concerns if the fund would be deployed towards addressing the infrastructural challenge in the zone.

Nevertheless, Nkwonta, who represents Ukwa East and West federal constituency of Abia State, said his committee will ensure that the SEDC activities aligns with the best interest of the South East.

According to him, the SEDC Committee would work closely with regional stakeholders, including state governments, traditional leaders, and community groups, to ensure that the objective of the commission is achieved.

“We will ensure the agency’s programmes and projects are implemented effectively and efficiently,” the lawmaker stated.
