The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the November 8, 2025, election in Anambra State, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, has stated that, given the current reality in the country, only a strong coalition of parties can seize power and save Nigerians from the misgovernance of the ruling party.
Nwosu, who recently emerged as the ADC candidate through a substitution primary election, had previously aspired to be Anambra governor on the Labour Party (LP) platform before defecting to the ADC.
Speaking to reporters in Awka on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Nwosu said the primary reason some political actors are forming a coalition is to rescue Nigeria from bad governance.
“Rescuing Nigeria is now a compelling imperative. Given the level of state capture and poor governance we are witnessing, it is in the common and national interest to arrest the drift,” he said.
“I have moved to ADC. We have values and choices. You need to be able to defend the platform from where you operate. Where there are obvious conflicts to conscience and integrity, you excuse yourself or risk being party to the wrongdoings. That was why I left LP, because ADC presented a credible alternative.”
On the expected coalition, rumoured to centre around the ADC, and its key figures, Nwosu emphasized that the focus is not on specific individuals but on the urgency to address Nigeria’s governance crisis.
“Coalition is exactly what it says—a gathering of like minds, people, or platforms with a similar or common interest. However, personalities and candidates can drive or influence a coalition. The common interest now is to salvage the sinking ship called Nigeria. We can’t rid ourselves of one bad governance yoke only to embrace another. We need a fresh face, a fresh start, and sustainable governance in Anambra. I’m obligated to serve,” he said.
