The Acting Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom state Dr Kevin Okonna has charged graduating cadets of the institution to be worthy ambassadors upholding core values of the Academy anywhere in the world.
According to the press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron, Domo Umoekpe and made available to Journalists in Uyo, Okonna gave the charge during the Passing out Parade(POP) of the 2025 graduating cadets of institution.
Umoekpe said the Acting Rector appreciated graduating cadets for their resilience through years of rigorous academic and regimental training .
The statement reads in parts :
“Dr. Kevin Okonna, charged them to be worthy ambassadors of the Academy and the maritime industry as a whole.
” He urged them to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, and excellence instilled in them throughout their training.
“Dr. Okonna also commended the graduating cadets for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence, noting that their perseverance had prepared them for the challenges and opportunities of the maritime world.”

Umoekpe disclosed that the Acting Rector extended the appreciation to members of Management, staff and the Nigerian Navy for their unwavering efforts at instilling and maintaining high training standards and discipline in the Cadets.
She said the Acting Rector expressed continuous commitment to produce competent seafarers capable of contributing meaningfully to both national and global maritime development.
Umoekpe stated that Okonna described the 2025 graduating cadets as the most fortunate for
having the rare privilege of meeting and interacting with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez, during his recent visit to Nigeria.
She maintained the that the Passing Out Parade was further honoured by the presence of IMO Consultants as a testament to the Academy’s growing international recognition.
” The Passing Out Parade featured captivating display of military precision, including quick and slow march pasts, as well as the reciting of outstanding cadets’ profiles showcasing their discipline, academic excellence, hobbies and leadership qualities.”
